Welcome to the Shire Council
You care about quality food. We do too.
We’d like to invite you to join us as a founding member of the newly formed Shire Council. We are composed of a diverse group of farmers, chefs, health & fitness influencers, entrepreneurs, nutritionists, and natural food lovers with a shared mission of building a better food system.
What is Shire?
Shire's mission is to make quality food, which supports human and ecological health, more accessible.
With the goal of reforming the food system entirely, Shire's initial product is an app that enables users to find food producers--farms, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.-- with an explicit commitment to quality products.
Food quality is important for the health of people, the ecosystem, and their communities. Most food does not meet this bar. Shire is for people who are looking for the minority of food that does.
We believe one of the biggest barriers to more conscious eating is access-- many people are interested in buying healthy, high-quality food, but they don't know where to get it. The first step in our mission is to make sure that any producer that makes such food is recognized for it, and that people can easily find them.

How can I help?

The Shire Council is responsible for stewarding Shire’s mission. History has shown us that despite even the best intentions, the industrial food complex has a way of pulling food businesses and marketplace platforms towards exploitation and sell-out status. When it comes down to it, we believe in principles over profits. You will help ensure that always remains true.
You will also play a part in guiding early policies (e.g. what kinds of food, producers, & methods should we emphasize?), offering domain insight/expertise, coming up with and testing future platform features, expanding our network, and generally helping to make Shire known to the world.
What’s in it for me?

As a society, our health is deteriorating, our communities are being ripped apart, our environment is degrading, and the vast majority of the animals we rely on are raised in horrific conditions.
It seems everyone has a choice when it comes to these issues: carrying on with head-in-the-sand ignorance, virtue signaling about them on social media, or taking useful, definitive action.
Shire is for people who choose the latter.
